Survey
Accelerating the energy transition
The “FlexBlue – Flexible cooling supply systems against the backdrop of increasing decarbonization” project was launched at the beginning of the year. Now the project partners – including the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT – are asking players in the refrigeration value chain for their support: with the help of a survey, they want to identify obstacles to the flexibilization of refrigeration supply systems.
The questionnaire can be found at https://s.fhg.de/5Mz5 and takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The data is analyzed anonymously so that no conclusions can be drawn about specific companies.
Flexibilization potential in the cooling sector
By making refrigeration supply systems more flexible,CO2 emissions can be reduced by 22 to 39 percent. Fraunhofer UMSICHT came to this conclusion in the “FlexKaelte” project. At the same time, the researchers discovered that there are still a number of obstacles and hurdles on the path to flexibilization. How they can be overcome is the focus of the follow-up project “FlexBlue”

kraftBoxx and NEWNOW
Joint venture for HVAC systems
The German kraftBoxx GmbH and the Chinese NEWNOW Group have established a joint venture to develop and manufacture advanced thermal storage systems for the global HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) market.
CEO Klaus Rauch and CEO Cai Dongwu are looking forward to the Thermorage joint venture.
During the visit of the Chinese delegation, the joint venture between the German specialist for thermal energy storage in technical building equipment and the Chinese manufacturer of state-of-the-art ventilation and air conditioning units was sealed.

The joint company Thermorage Co, Ltd (a combination of “Thermo” & “Storage”) based in Kunshan combines the expertise of kraftBoxx and NEWNOW and will bundle the joint development and production in the HVAC sector in the future.
Thermorage is supported in this by the research and development sites in Aulendorf and Bad Saarow (Germany) and Shanghai (China). The production site in Kunshan, currently one of the most modern production facilities in China withan area of 15,000m2, is being expanded for the new product ranges and developed into the central logistics hub for Asia.
“The transformation of energy generation in China is currently starting at a speed that is unimaginable for us Germans, towards a full supply of renewable energies,” emphasizes Klaus Rauch, Managing Director of kraftBoxx GmbH. “However, in order to be able to use these reliably, storage systems of all sizes and applications are needed. Together with our partner NEWNOW, we now want to tap into this huge market volume in China with its 1.4 billion inhabitants.”
“Thanks to our existing NEWNOW sales structure, we already serve customers in the HVAC sector throughout China,” emphasizes Cai Dongwu, CEO of Thermorage.
“By introducing high-capacity thermal storage systems based on PCM (phase change materials), we are increasingly developing into a provider of holistic and innovative solutions, particularly those for the use of renewable energies.
China’s high growth rate is now also increasingly resulting in a desire for a comfortable, healthy and energy-saving living environment, supported by a very ambitious environmental policy. The continued high reputation of the “Made in Germany” label in China will further promote our business activities.”
Mongolia: Heating with solar power
The atmosfair project in cooperation with the NewClimate Institute (NCI) and kraftBoxx GmbH focuses on the installation of photovoltaic systems and electric heating systems in Mongolia in order to convert institutions such as kindergartens and schools from the harmful use of coal to solar power.
Two different solar-electric heating systems are already being tested in “twin” kindergartens in Ulaanbaatar. The first system relies on a water-based heating system with heating rods, while the second system uses heat pumps to pump heat from the outside air into the interior rooms.
Mongolia, which relies on coal for 90% of its heating energy, records thousands of premature deaths from air pollution every year. The use of solar power for heating, favored by the region’s high solar radiation rates, could offer a sustainable solution to this environmental and health crisis.

Following an evaluation of the two tested systems, atmosfair plans to expand the project to other institutions, with kraftBoxx GmbH and the Mongolian company Solar Energy Consulting LLC implementing and supervising the systems as partners.
Frigoteam asset deal strengthens market position of kraftBoxx
The demand for refrigeration systems with natural refrigerants is constantly growing, not only due to the legal framework conditions, in building air conditioning, food cooling as well as industrial cooling.
With immediate effect, kraftBoxx will take over sales and project planning with the acquisition of Frigoteam, thus expanding its portfolio of highly efficient Heat and Cold Storage systems based on PCM (Phase Change Materials) to include refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants or their system integration. The background is that kraftBoxx took over the “spiritual heritage” of Frigoteam in the middle of this year. Through this asset deal, all agendas, from development to project planning to execution, were transferred to kraftBoxx.
As a pioneer in the field of refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants, the German company Frigoteam was already specializing in making supply systems more flexible by integrating refrigeration storage systems and was thus operating in a very similar field to kraftBoxx.
Thanks to the broad portfolio of kraftBoxx PCM storage units in different temperature ranges from -50 to +90°C, all heat sink/heat source storage units can now be offered holistically for the first time to increase system efficiency.
“For us, this addition makes absolute sense. We bring the necessary experience in the development and marketing of latent heat storage systems and can therefore continue to guarantee customers the highest quality. Thanks to the newly gained synergies, we will now further expand the area of innovative holistic solutions,” confirms kraftBoxx Managing Director Klaus Rauch.

Innovations at Chillventa 2022 World's leading trade fair for refrigeration technology
from 11 - 13 Oct. 2022 in Nuremberg
It takes a lot of energy to generate cold or heat. But it is expensive right now. Many companies in the air conditioning, ventilation and heat pump sectors are therefore focusing on sustainability and efficiency.
More memory thanks to innovative “cold packs
A company from Baden-Württemberg, on the other hand, wants to provide more efficient heat and cold storage. KraftBoxx GmbH from Aulendorf has developed zucchini-shaped plastic containers. In them are non-toxic salt hydrates.
Depending on the composition of the liquid, the contents of the “HeatStixx” thaw at different temperatures.
For example, the output of a power-heat pump could be significantly increased, …
