Energiewende beschleunigen

Anfang des Jahres fiel der Startschuss für das Projekt »FlexBlue – Flexible Kälteversorgungssysteme vor dem Hintergrund zunehmender Dekarbonisierung«. Jetzt bitten die Projektpartner – darunter das Fraunhofer-Institut für Umwelt-, Sicherheits- und Energietechnik UMSICHT – Akteure der Kältewertschöpfungskette um ihre Unterstützung: Mit Hilfe einer Umfrage wollen sie Hemmnisse bei der Flexibilisierung von Kälteversorgungssystemen identifizieren. 

Der Fragebogen ist unter https://s.fhg.de/5Mz5 zu finden, die Beantwortung dauert 10 bis 15 Minuten. Die Daten werden anonym ausgewertet, so dass keine Rückschlüsse auf spezifische Unternehmen gezogen werden können.

Flexibilisierungspotenzial im Kältesektor

Durch eine Flexibilisierung von Kälteversorgungssystemen lassen sich CO2-Emissionen um 22 bis 39 Prozent reduzieren. Zu diesem Ergebnis kam Fraunhofer UMSICHT im Projekt »FlexKaelte«. Gleichzeitig fanden die Forschenden heraus: Auf dem Weg zur Flexibilisierung gibt es noch eine Reihe von Hemmnissen und Hürden. Wie sie überwunden werden können, steht im Fokus des Nachfolgeprojektes »FlexBlue«

Das gemeinsame Unternehmen Thermorage Co., Ltd (ein Kombination aus „Thermo“ & „Storage“) mit Sitz in Kunshan vereint die Expertise von kraftBoxx und NEWNOW und bündelt zukünftig die gemeinsame Entwicklung und Produktion im Bereich HVAC. 

Unterstützt wird Thermorage hierbei von den Forschungs- und Entwicklungsstandorten in Aulendorf und Bad Saarow (Deutschland) sowie Shanghai (China). Der Produktionsstandort in Kunshan, mit aktuell 15.000 m2 bereits eine der modernsten Produktionsstätten Chinas, wird für die neuen Produktreihen erweitert und zum zentralen Logistik-Hub für Asien ausgebaut.

„Aktuell startet in China die Transformation der Energieerzeugung mit einer für uns Deutsche unvorstellbaren Geschwindigkeit hin zu einer Voll-Versorgung mit erneuerbaren Energien“ betont Klaus Rauch, Geschäftsführer der kraftBoxx GmbH. „Um diese allerdings auch verlässlich nutzen zu können werden Speicher in allen Größen und Anwendungsgebieten benötigt, gemeinsam mit unserem Partner NEWNOW wollen wir nun dieses riesige Marktvolumen in China mit seinen 1,4 Mrd. Einwohner erschließen.“

Mongolia: Heating with solar power

The atmosfair project in cooperation with the NewClimate Institute (NCI) and kraftBoxx GmbH focuses on the installation of photovoltaic systems and electric heating systems in Mongolia in order to convert institutions such as kindergartens and schools from the harmful use of coal to solar power.

Two different solar-electric heating systems are already being tested in “twin” kindergartens in Ulaanbaatar. The first system relies on a water-based heating system with heating rods, while the second system uses heat pumps to pump heat from the outside air into the interior rooms.

Mongolia, which relies on coal for 90% of its heating energy, records thousands of premature deaths from air pollution every year. The use of solar power for heating, favored by the region’s high solar radiation rates, could offer a sustainable solution to this environmental and health crisis.

The demand for refrigeration systems with natural refrigerants is constantly growing, not only due to the legal framework conditions, in building air conditioning, food cooling as well as industrial cooling.

With immediate effect, kraftBoxx will take over sales and project planning with the acquisition of Frigoteam, thus expanding its portfolio of highly efficient Heat and Cold Storage systems based on PCM (Phase Change Materials) to include refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants or their system integration. The background is that kraftBoxx took over the “spiritual heritage” of Frigoteam in the middle of this year. Through this asset deal, all agendas, from development to project planning to execution, were transferred to kraftBoxx.

As a pioneer in the field of refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants, the German company Frigoteam was already specializing in making supply systems more flexible by integrating refrigeration storage systems and was thus operating in a very similar field to kraftBoxx.

Thanks to the broad portfolio of kraftBoxx PCM storage units in different temperature ranges from -50 to +90°C, all heat sink/heat source storage units can now be offered holistically for the first time to increase system efficiency. 

“For us, this addition makes absolute sense. We bring the necessary experience in the development and marketing of latent heat storage systems and can therefore continue to guarantee customers the highest quality. Thanks to the newly gained synergies, we will now further expand the area of innovative holistic solutions,” confirms kraftBoxx Managing Director Klaus Rauch.

With the acquisition of Frigoteam, a system supplier for refrigeration plants, kraftBoxx is expanding its range of products and services for system integration of its highly efficient PCM Heat and Cold Storage systems.

The Frigoteam sales agency is managed by Mr. Burkhardt Dunst and team. As a pioneer in the field of refrigeration systems based on natural refrigerants, Frigoteam already specializes in making supply systems more flexible by integrating refrigeration storage units, and thus operates in a very similar field to kraftBoxx.

Which projects are eligible?

  • be completely rebuilt or reinstalled
  • the refrigeration unit is newly created, but the refrigerant system is
    (water, brine, air distribution system) remains in place
  • Heat and Cold Storage within Supplemental Funding

Within the scope of the directive, the following funding priorities are included

  • Funding is limited to 150,000 euros per measure and to a maximum of 50% of eligible expenses

The implementation planning is subsidized with the following lump sums

  • 500 euros per air cooler, minimum 1,000 euros, maximum 5,000 euros
  • 1,000 euros for the integration of one or more thermal storage units
  • 1.000 Euro for the integration of one or more Cold Storage units

Who is eligible to apply for funding?

Eligible to apply for stationary equipment are: Companies, non-profit organizations, municipalities, local authorities, special-purpose associations and proprietary companies, universities and schools, hospitals and church institutions, irrespective of the intention to make a profit.
  • Food retail or other retail
  • with cold room and freezer
  • With demand for industrial and process refrigeration
  • with high cooling demand and accruing waste heat
  • Hotel, catering, baker, butcher, butcher
  • Schools and hospitals and much more.

Since January 2019, the promotion of air conditioning and refrigeration systems with non-halogenated refrigerants decided by the BMWI has been running.

The funding amount for the newly published funding guideline from BAFA can now be determined via the online funding calculator for latent and hybrid storage.

Our heatStixx and heatSel are designed in such a way that, in addition to a large surface area, the PCM layer thicknesses are simultaneously kept so low that the entire PCM participates in the phase change process, thus realizing efficient heat transfer (rapid charging and discharging) even at very low temperature differences.

The design as a hybrid heat accumulator enables the greatest possible dynamics due to the water content and is therefore perfectly suited for a wide range of applications in refrigeration / air conditioning and heating technology.
